SWAG BAGS: production, late arrivals, and distribution.

Right now, I'm receiving one or two emails daily from various contributors to swag bags all apologising for the likelihood that their packages will be arriving a day or two later than the posted deadline. As the production of any amount of SWAG BAGS is generally a long and detailed process, I believe it might be fair to overview it just a bit so that anyone contributing, or otherwise interested, might get a glimpse at both the process and also at why late arrivals... when arriving within a week of the posted deadline in most cases, aren't really all that LATE. [DVD-LIVE] Stream of Passion, feat: Ayreon (reviewed)

=============================================

**Special note: The quality of this production is so sensational and surprising that I simply could not resist sharing a few words in review of this experience as it unfolds before me, even now! As this DVD reflects music performed by music artists previously unfamiliar to me, I find myself especially inspired to explore more new music through the medium of DVD. If you believe that your band/music artist has a STELLAR music DVD to promote, then please send it to me for consideration. I'll only review DVDs that I believe merit promotional comment. Submissions info? --> Contact: Jett Black 360.513.9121 / submissions@nocturnalmovements.net

=============================================

EASILY one the most well-produced musical DVD's to join this writer's library, Live in the Real World (2006) exhibits Stream of Passion, featuring Ayreon in an extended set of simply stunning performances recorded live at "Lucky&Co.", February 17, 2006 in Rijssen, Holland. Communications with the attending audience cascades naturally between both Dutch and English tongues. Dressed to kill, Marcela Bovio (lead vocals & violin) and Diana Bovio (backing vocals) strike directly into the heart of that gothic metal fanbase who may also follow more veteran icons such as Lacuna Coil and Tristania for both the sex appeal of their leading vocalists as well as the beautiful mastery of live and recorded musical performances worldwide.

Henry Rollins Show, Season ONE, 3 DVD box set

a friend of mine asked for more details about this Henry Rollins Show DVD set as it has me going bonkers with stunned admiration... my casual comments began taking on the form of an actual review, and so... with no further introduction, please pardon me while I whip this out....

Henry Rollins Show, Season ONE, 3 DVD box set.

Henry Rollins is the host of this show (duh), wherein he provides lots of brazen social and political commentary moments... just hilarious, most of them... like an open letter to Laura Bush, etc. and Drawing Conclusions... and END CREDITS... basically recurring sections in each episode, always fresh, always razor sharp, often facetious, sarcastic, but to the point. There's a featured live music act at the end of each broadcast introduced by Heidi May, apparently a promoter and those segments are recorded in a professional studio, with additional completely separate songs also available in each case online at the website for the show... which I forget now... but it's basically the parent of the show... some independent artists focal point of some sort. I gather this is a TIVO favourite as TIVO is mentioned periodically.

HR is articulate. He doesn't mince words. The entire show is very in-your-face style, but it's also very professional... Read more... )

[DVD] DANIKA - Demon-possessed? or just Housewife-in-crisis?

DANIKA (2005) - a suspense-thriller that very cleverly weaves together recognisable threads of modern urban & surburban lifestyles that may come up in conversations with close friends, such as..

Have you noticed the growing population of panhandlers on local street corners? Or... Did you hear that so-and-so is having a nervous break down? Yeah, Apparently her children are demon possessed and her husband is sleeping with the nanny!

Take the nervous break-down scenario and imagine all of the things that might hasten such a crisis to occur. Then, shake vigorously, and bring it all to a continuous, rumbling boil... and suddenly... violá! DANIKA!

The twist is that suspenseful moment that viewers will wait through the entire film to finally realise. You can thank Ariel Vromen (Director) for the way in which the punch line is at long last delivered, and wow! It is a mind-shattering climax!

The ending to this story is well worth the cascading, bash-your-skull against-the-rocks style of plot development.

Although, I'm confident that we all know what the phone number spells out, I won't spoil it for anyone, just in case anyone would like to let their own fingers do the walking.

By the way... a humourous response to this very response posting (view) within my BLOG PAGE also references a cleverly appropriate YouTube video on a very similar subject...

Below, please find my gothic suicide survey response letter... followed by the original survey itself.

[paradigms] "Not everyone believes what you believe."

[This message is my response to feedback received from a friend of mine in Seattle who shares a few kind words regarding the quality of my writing as posted earlier this week. In addressing that feedback extemporaneously, I begin alluding to strings that loosely conceal a unifying paradigm of which I have previously written, though only briefly using other examples. By subscribing to my Blog, readers may examine other postings that I have made on the subject of paradigmatic unification. Undoubtedly, I will write more on the subject as we draw ever closer to the end of the Mayan calendar.]

I would love it if all the world were at my feet, or if at least someone would pay me a satisfactory advance ... I'd write a book if I could simply not worry about HOW I might pay routine monthly bills first. I could conceivably write dozens of enlightening books over any remaining years filled with serious research and contagious passion.

I've spilled enough blood supporting the underground/indie music industry with an invigorating passion of words, enough to rack up plenty of student loan debts, and to have lived month-to-month and week-to-week for far too many years.

I'd do it all over again if only it would place hardcover books on my shelves bearing not just my own name, but also my own ideas more thoroughly defined and inserted throughout novels, plays, essays, non-fiction, poetry, and self-help guides. Though, who reads much if at all post-2000?

(This message is a shout-out to my FRIENDS with whom I have been out of contact for far too long these past several months... )

MOST RECENTLY, during the past several weeks, I've been unemployed... such chaos may sometimes arise while upholding one's principles regarding public health vs. managerial insolence & insubordination. ("Do no harm", "When in doubt, throw it out," et cetera.)

Over the past 24 hours, I have received two phone calls and an e-mail each expressing confirmed interest in local employment opportunities. These KNOWN contacts are making responses and follow-ups to forwarded applications and résumés.

[YEARendREVIEW] THE SPIRITUAL BAT: Through the Shadows [INTERVIEW & OVERVIEW]

THE SPIRITUAL BAT

READ the COMPLETE MUSIC FEATURE

as overviewed & interviewed by Jett Black NocturnalMovements.net

ITALY is home to many of the finest musicians and music recordings that this writer has ever experienced. The latest professional audio recordings emanating from the talents of ex-Spiritual Bats music composers Dario Passamonti and Rosetta Garri falls under A new moniker, The Spiritual Bat. The instrumental CD itself, entitled Through the Shadows, prominently features additional accompaniment by flautista Maestro Bruno Paolo Lombardi (National RAI Orchestra).

Through the Shadows establishes a new mile marker for both principle musicians on a journey wherein the significance is echoed by the title of this new debut. Passamonti re-affirms his exceptionally beautiful skills via visionary guitar work on all 12 audio tracks, while Garri keeps pace with the gods, journeying via percussion and sequencing.

To help us better understand any cryptic implications, Garri and Passamonti now join us to respond to a few curious points of interest reflective of experiences gathering upon The Spiritual Bat and its full-length debut release, Through the Shadows.

Living the Straight Jacket Life..

Bryan Lee launches a twisted, solo-flight journey into what Radio Free Abattoir describes as a pathology of electronics with SNUTTOCK. The darker edge of underground synthpop-loving literary rags praise SNUTTOCK for this one-man band's smoothly disciplined, innovative, and unsullied debut title, Straight Jacket Life, co-produced by Christopher Lee Simmonds (Thought Industry, Filter, Good Charlotte, Jimi's Chicken Shack, Marcy playground, Hell Mary, Bullhead), who also contributes generously to the album as a guest musician. Technical globetrotting, hot on the heels of this head turning seminal release, Lee revisits Simmonds' studio to focus upon remixes spun from additional creative infusions woven into entirely new songs destined to grab abundant interest from both fans and critics alike.

Let's stop the elevator now in between floors, pressing forth a few inquiries. Take a listen as Lee and Simmonds respond..

Now that the debut CD dust has settled, what is on the horizon for SNUTTOCK?

Bryan Lee: For the immediate future... the remix disk (entitled Carved and Sutured)... Beyond that... to get Snuttock into as many ears as possible, while working on a new CD. --> read MORE!

Artwork by Michael Riley, as exhibited within issues 17 & 18 of Gothic Beauty magazine, also graces the cover of SNUTTOCK's Straight Jacket Life?

LEE: ... After seeing his artwork, I was convinced that he could present the visual "Snuttockian" image... --> read MORE!

seeing thru it all...

seeing thru it all...

when the lights come up and black-lit colours dance across a crowded room

weaving staircase ladders, darklings embellish the gloom with fantasies none can contain

Then, a glamourous figure surmounts the pedestal and croons a familiar tune

the music unfolds and reverberates, cascading thru-out the tomb

wherein denizens follow paths leading each to consume libations of sorrow deliciously disguised, like cyanide candies, lying two-by-two.

oh, no! don't go seeing thru it all!

oh, no! cover your eyes lest the magic fade and fall away

keep dancing slowly into the threat of dawn

lost souls, just keep twisting on

never let the eyeliner fade from grace

when the magic falls, and you can see thru it all

you'll know then that it's time to walk away.

when the stars begin to fade and all that glitters turns to grey

it's time to stop bleeding, it's time to stop needing, it's time to simply fade away...

HEX HOLLYWOOD

Here's a copy of the HEX HOLLYWOOD HALLOWEEN current press release asking for promotional involvements:

*************
DJ XIAN writes:

Hey everyone,

It's that time of year again! HEX HOLLYWOOD: HALLOWEEN 2006 (http://www.hexhollywood.com) quickly approaches, and promises to be even bigger and better than last year's event! This will be THEE Goth/Industrial/Fetish Halloween Event of the year~

On Halloween night in 2005 (a Monday night), a phenomenal 750 patrons attended HEX HOLLYWOOD, making my first ever event a fantastic success. Two times a charm, and the millenium aligning itself most conveniantly, HEX HOLLYWOOD came back with a special SIX SIX SIX event on...yup, 06/06/06. With a mere two weeks of promotion for an event on a Tuesday, we pulled another 500 people! Both events were 21+, no less.

Now it's time to call up the promotional troops for this year's push of promo goodies for Halloween! HEX HOLLYWOOD: SIX SIX SIX received enough promotional materials to create 100 grab bags given to the first 100 people in costume earlier this year. My goal this time around is to get enough promotions to make 150 bags!

What DJ XIAN & HEX HOLLYWOOD are looking for:

- posters
- flyers (clubs, bands, services, websites)
- business cards
- stickers
- swag (teeshirts, CDs, toys, samplers)
- and more!

...bonus:
- promotional sponsorship from larger names (no money, just cross promotion/link exchanges, maybe forwardin of a press release to email list)
- CD release promotions (we'd love to show you off first)

What I do in exchange:

All contributers will have their name (and logo if available) put on the website with a link back to their respective websites or MySpace pages. Also, their name (and logo if availble and space permitting) will be placed on print flyers and on the LA Weekly (a weekly magazine here in Los Angeles). This is a fantastic promotional opportunity!

Promotional sponsors will get larger links and logo placement on print materials. They will also have their logo and information on web flyers, including links. Previous sponsors have included: BLUE BLOOD, PAN PIPES: MAGICKAL MARKETPLACE, DOMINATION PRESENTS.

Contact:

Please contact me if you're interested in contributing promotional materials to the grab bag or would like to arrange a promotinoal sponsorship either here in email: "djxian@aol.com".

Please send promotional materials to:

HEX HOLLYWOOD - c/o Christian
6326 Lexington Ave, Apt. H
Los Angeles, CA 90038

The deadline for sending materials is: October 24th

Please send me an email letting me know that you are contributing goods, what you are sending, and a count of all types of materials (yes, even flyers and postcards and stickers). Do not ship the items until I have responded to you giving you the go ahead. In the past some items have been inappropriate to the theme or genre, so it's now just a policy check. Items sent without email notification and approval will not be used.

Looking forward to everyone's contributions this year!

*************

Thanks for reading this and let me know if you'd be interested in coming on board as a promotional sponsor or sorts, or had any other promotional ideas. Similarly if you knew any bands or businesses that would be interested in contributing goods to the hex goodie bags, that would also be fantastic (see materials list above).

Thanks,

CHRISTIAN / DJ XIAN
